Why Squirrels Don’t Need a Dentist

5 Star Service and Hundreds of Happy Customers in:
Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire & North London

Squirrels have a tooth problem. Their front teeth continue to grow throughout their life. A squirrel with giant teeth? It’s not a good look and would obviously make eating pretty tricky, too. So, clever as they are, squirrels spend their life gnawing to keep their pearly whites down to a manageable size. That’s good news for squirrels – but could be bad news for you.

With the exception of metal, squirrels can chew their way through just about anything. Urban squirrels can gnaw their way through roof beams and supports in lofts, chew through electrical wires and use their gnashers to get through water pipes, which can of course lead to flooding.

And now squirrels have turned their teeth to solar panels. The critters like to nest underneath the panels and while they’re there they can’t stop themselves chewing through the electrical cables.

The team at Area Pest Control have visited so many properties where this is happening that they’ve developed their own solar panel squirrel proofing system. We use galvanised wire mesh, galvanised metal clips and galvanised wire – and the system has been 100% successful at keeping squirrels out.

Squirrels under the solar panels

We were recently called out to a customer who’d noticed squirrels on her roof. When we arrived we found that squirrels had indeed nested under the solar panels and had chewed their way through a formidable amount of wiring.

We set about proofing the solar panels against further invasions and were delighted to receive an email from our customer to say that the proofing had done its job and that no squirrels had returned. Even more pleasing, the solar installer who’d been around to replace the 20 areas of damaged wiring and connections commented on our proofing system and the quality of our work.
